Global Alliance

The Commonwealth Mesothelioma Alliance brings together global expertise and partnerships to improve awareness, early detection, and care for mesothelioma worldwide.

Commonwealth Mesothelioma Alliance

Building a global alliance to improve mesothelioma care and outcomes across the Commonwealth.

The Biaggio Signorelli Foundation is partnering with ADDRI and Meso UK to develop the Commonwealth Meso Alliance, endorsed by the Prime Minister in June 2024. This initiative focuses on improving global standards of care through collaboration, training, and knowledge-sharing. In 2024, a team of eight Australian mesothelioma nurses undertook a three-week program in the UK to learn from the Meso UK model. Training has since commenced in developing countries, with the first session delivered in Cambodia in August 2025. The project has also been endorsed by the Governor General of Australia, with further discussions underway to align with CHOGM 2027.

Meso Hour Support Group

Connecting patients and carers through Australia’s first national mesothelioma support network.

Meso Hour

An online monthly webinar series on the first Tuesday of each month providing education and support for people impacted by Mesothelioma.

Launched in February 2025, Meso Hour is Australia’s first online mesothelioma support group, bringing together patients and carers from across the country. With 30 participants attending the inaugural session, the group now meets monthly, offering a safe space for education, shared experiences, and peer support. A full program has been developed for 2026, with the next session scheduled for March 3, 2026.

UK Alliance Launch at Australia House

Strengthening international collaboration to advance mesothelioma awareness and support.

The Foundation is working to formally introduce the Commonwealth Mesothelioma Alliance in the UK, with a launch event planned at Australia House. Following a meeting with the Australian Ambassador to the UK in December 2024, preparations are underway for a 2026 event hosted by the incoming Ambassador. This event will also serve as a key opportunity to engage supporters and raise vital funds.

Royal Partnership Initiative

Seeking royal support to elevate global awareness of mesothelioma.

A formal request has been submitted to Buckingham Palace to support the Commonwealth Meso Alliance through a partnership with His Majesty King Charles. This initiative aims to raise international awareness and aligns with the planned visit of Their Royal Highnesses, The Prince and Princess of Wales, to Australia in 2026.

‘Could it be Meso?’ Nurse Training

Empowering nurses with the knowledge to identify mesothelioma earlier.

This national rapid e-learning program equips nurses with the skills to recognise early signs of mesothelioma and improve patient outcomes. Developed in partnership with ADDRI, the “Could it be Meso?” training has already been completed by over 90 nurses, with continued uptake across Australia. The program is designed to support frontline healthcare professionals with accessible, practical education.

Mesothelioma Research Priority Project

Identifying the most critical research needs to drive better patient outcomes.

In collaboration with Mesothelioma UK, the UK Mesothelioma Research Centre at Sheffield University, and Slater and Gordon, this project will define the top research and patient priorities in Australia. With formal research agreements in place as of February 2026, the project will guide future investment and innovation in mesothelioma research, with completion expected by the end of 2026.

National Cancer Nurse Training Expansion

Expanding mesothelioma expertise across Australia’s nursing workforce.

Discussions are progressing with the McGrath Foundation to deliver specialised mesothelioma training to cancer nurses nationwide, including those in rural and remote communities. ADDRI has been nominated to lead this initiative, which aims to enhance the capabilities of lung cancer nurses and the broader oncology nursing workforce.
